Thame High Altitude Nursery
The Khumbu Bijuli Company (KBC) has been playing a pivotal role in conservation of high altitude forests not only by providing clean and alternative source of energy, but also directly through reforestation programs.  KBC operates and financed the ‘Thame High Altitude Nursery’ established in 1994 with the prime objective of producing high altitude adaptable plant species for reforestation to restore the land around Thame valley eroded due to the installation of penstock pipe, high voltage cable and intake. The nursery located in Thame village at an altitude of 3800m produces around 4000 seedlings of high altitude local species such as birch, silver fir, juniper, willow and rhododendron annually. With the aim of restoring the degraded land around the project construction area and protect the slopes from landslide, KBC has fenced the area and planted thousands of tree saplings produced from Thame High Altitude Nursery since 1996.
